Imagine you bought a brand new classy shirt for yourself. You use it for months. One day you get it out of the washing machine and you notice the shirt doesn’t appear the same anymore. There are permanent wrinkles on it. It has lost its sheen. The case is exactly the same with our skin. It is often said that our skin is an indicator of our age. Our skin changes with our age. A baby’s skin is soft and smooth and elastic. With age our skin loses its elasticity. Also, the number of sweat glands decreases. There are nerve endings beneath our skin, there are changes in these too.
We can approximately make a guess of the age of a person by his skin appearance. The number of wrinkles, skin condition, pimples, acne, freckles, can be used to approximately determine the age of the person. It is all a natural process and there is very little we can do about the wrinkling or loss of elasticity of our skin. However, there are certain methods by which we can take care of our skin. This can be done with proper cleaning as well as supplementing it with proper necessary nutrients. People spend a good fortune in pills and medicines and cosmetics to keep their skin looking vibrant and youthful. These days with the advancement of technology a lot of options are available to keep the skin looking young. You get prescriptions for almost everything, from removing wrinkle to treatment of pimples.
This brings us to the tough question, what exactly does my skin need? How can I keep it looking youthful and vibrant? Well, you must have seen ads saying that these anti-aging pills can make your wrinkles disappear in two weeks flat. That they slow down the whole skin aging process. The results definitely are not what they show in the advertisements but yes, these pills and medicines do work. There are two theories behind their working. One, is they manage our various hormone levels which are responsible for aging signs. Two, oxidation reactions in our body. HGH, human growth hormone is responsible for stimulation of growth of our cells. Thus these medicines target our hormone levels in our body. When the hormones levels responsible for growth of our cells, go down, our aging process speed also goes down. The second theory, is to prevent the damage to the skin from the byproducts of oxidation reaction carried out in our body.
Oxidation reactions are necessary to supply the necessary energy for carrying out the various life processes. However, during oxidation certain free radicals are given out as by-products. These free radicals are a danger to the surrounding cells. They damage the nearby cells. This basically why are skin changes with age. But, the emission of free radicals is something we cannot control. However, we can take care of our skin. Smoking tobacco, exposure to the sun for a long time is something that increases the rate of cell damage. There is nothing we can do about the second theory about free radical discharge except taking care of the skin.
We can reduce the aging process by taking vitamin supplement pills to reduce wrinkles and tighten skin. But in spite of all this, a proper diet and a healthy lifestyle is the real necessity of a youthful, beautiful skin.
